Overview

A guided microlearning module that helps learners apply APA 7.0 number formatting rules through embedded practice inside a short video.

Rather than frontloading rules or testing mastery, learners make decisions in the moment and receive immediate visual feedback, supported by a lightweight job aid for later reference.

Preview mode allows non-linear navigation. Questions appear at the “drip/drop” symbols. The final two drops contain the reflection and job aid.

Design documents and a job aid are available in this Google file.

The Problem

Writers often second-guess APA number rules mid-sentence. This module supports that moment of uncertainty by prioritizing clarity and confirmation over memorization.

Design Highlights

  • Embedded questions support “learn while doing”
  • Reflection + job aid open in a new tab to preserve navigation
  • Minimal color usage; red signals incorrect formatting only
  • 10-minute runtime, intentionally scoped to one rule
  • Built for rapid iteration and quick deployment

Learning Outcomes

Learners can:

  • Identify when APA 7.0 requires numerals vs. written numbers
  • Self-correct common formatting errors
  • Use the job aid as performance support during drafting

Instructional Approach

Guided practice, not assessment

  • Try → Reveal → Adjust
  • Embedded interaction as pacing
  • Integrated performance support
  • Reflection for metacognition

Current Scope

One installment in a larger APA series, aligned to stakeholder style and production workflow.
